Comí salmorejo espectacular (no pude hacerle fotos jajaj)!

Impresionante.

I first ate here in June 2016. I had just had 2 days and a night of intercontinental flying and a pair of confusing bus rides. I dumped my gear off at my apartment in CRUSA and the reception worker, Carlos, told me to go eat at this cafe. I couldn't tell that it was a cafe. To me it looked like a storage shed for the garden tools that they weren't using on the grounds for the student housing, but I peeked in through the steel and glass door, and lo, a bar with one person working and a skinny middle aged woman eating. I tried to explain to the one dude at the bar, in Spanish, that it was my first day in Spain, and I had no idea what to eat. He said "What do you mean, you don't know what to eat? Just eat food." I asked "Okay, but what food?" I explained that I would like something for lunch, and he said "No, it's only 11:45 a.m. so we're still serving breakfast." He then took it upon himself to go out of his way and point at a blackboard. This helped in no way. I told him that all of this was foreign to me, and he responded by tilting his head and looking at me through furrowed brow. The skinny lady told him "Just give him tortilla de patata." I had heard of tortilla de patata, so I told him "Yes, I would like the tortilla de patata." So he plated a piece of potato souffle and sat it in front of me and asked what I would like to drink. I asked for water. He probably thought "This gringo is one stingy dude." I started eating the salty potato souffle when suddenly everybody started shouting in a language that I didn't understand, It was no longer Spanish, it was somehow the same language that everyone around me spoke when I was 4 years old. My first reaction was to wonder how they knew that confusing tongue. I then turned around and say a man as shirtless as he was homeless and unbathed asking for money. Everyone was barking at him while he entering the bar humbled himself to the floor begging for food. I took another bite of tortilla de patata. It was dry. As suddenly as all of this happened, two policemen came and ordered the vagabond out. "Welcome to Spain." I thought to myself. I finished the plate and asked the employee how much I owed him. He tilted his head and smiled big and toothy, and answered "Un euro." I gave him a euro coin, and returned to my hot apartment and slept. The cafe is now under new management. The food and service are both better. I like it a lot, but they don't serve half portions, which is why they only get 4 stars.
